The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line officially commenced commercial operation in late 2024; however, traveling by metro is still quite new to the residents of Ho Chi Minh City. Metro Line 1, also known as the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line, has a total length of 19.7 km, starting from Ben Thanh station (District 1) to the Long Bình depot (Thu Duc City). Metro Line 1 has a total of 3 underground stations (Ben Thanh, Municipal Theater, and Ba Son) and 11 elevated stations (Van Thanh Park, Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, Thu Duc, Hi-Tech Park, National University, and Suoi Tien Bus Station). The total travel time for the entire route is about 30 – 32 minutes, including the time spent stopping at stations. The travel time between stations is expected to be 1 – 2 minutes.

The entire line will have 17 trains, each with 3 cars, with a maximum speed of 110 km/h for the elevated section and 80 km/h for the underground section. The capacity of each train can be up to 930 passengers, including 783 standing passengers and 147 seated passengers. 

To ride the metro, passengers need to get to one of the 17 stations stretching from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien using various means of transportation, including feeder bus routes dedicated to the metro.

Traveling by personal vehicle

To get to the metro stations, passengers can use motorbikes or personal bicycles and park them at the station parking lots. The expected motorbike parking fee is 3,000 – 10,000 VND per trip.

Travel by bus

Passengers have many convenient bus options to reach Metro Line 1 stations. 17 bus routes connecting to Metro Line 1 stations started carrying passengers on December 20. These bus routes follow the itinerary of Metro Line 1 from District 1 to Thu Duc City, picking up passengers on nearby streets to get closest to the stations.

The bus routes connecting to metro line 1 are numbered from 153 to 169. The buses have a distinct visual identity so that people can easily recognize them, such as: the main color is blue and the exterior of the bus is stylized with yellow wavy lines. Both sides of the bus are decorated with sunflower motifs along with the words “xe buýt điện”.

Buses on these 17 routes operate from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, aligning with the operating hours of Metro Line 1, with an interval of 8 to 22 minutes per trip. Passengers riding these buses are also granted a 30-day fare exemption, synchronized with Metro Line 1. After the free period, the applicable fares will be 3,000 VND per trip for students and 5,000 VND per trip for general passengers.

Traveling by public bicycle

There are currently 43 public bicycle stations in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City, and residents can choose to ride public bicycles to the metro stations. These bicycle stations are located along Le Duan, Ton Duc Thang, Le Thanh Ton, Pham Hong Thai, Pham Ngu Lao, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ham Nghi streets, Quach Thi Trang Park in front of Ben Thanh market, at the beginning and end of Nguyen Hue walking street, Le Loi, Le Lai, and Nguyen Thi Nghia streets.

Travel by other means of transport

In addition, to get to Metro Line 1 stations, passengers can choose taxis, ride-hailing motorbike services, etc. If your workplace or home is around the station, you can completely rest assured walking and should use the overpass if you start from the other side of the station.
